Happy Full Moon of the Falling Leaves to our NW Women’s Surfing Community!
Just sitting on the rocks above the beach at Shorties waiting for the high tide to back off and start cleaning up the fun right in front of me. With the lowering tide and increasing offshore flow, the waves should only get better. I’ve so enjoyed the last week here with a magical Indian Summer pattern at hand; fall sized 3 to 7 foot swell at longer intervals with the northerly winds blowing side and offshore here. October is the month each year that brings a sweet, earthy feeling of life’s compost from a brilliant summer season of blissful student’s faces, which’ve either caught their first waves in the reforming white water or had their first green faced waves dropping in; to the many waves and nature experiences I’ve had this year. Being a surf facilitator brings me such a sense of wholeness and deep connection with the cyclical nature of life. Teaching allows me to rediscover and strengthen my appreciation of how the foundational base and skill set of surfing is so essential, not only to the beginner, but also in mastering intermediate and even advanced skills. Paddling efficiency and strokes, wave knowledge from reading the waves, the timing of your take offs, turns, and maneuvers, one’s personal confidence in the ocean, and the knowledge of how your board responds, are all started and built upon by understanding and practicing the foundations we’ve taught you in surfing. With this personal rediscovery and strengthened appreciation of the basics, my surfing and time spent in the ocean is a more heightened and aware experience. I’m so grateful to each and every one of you who’ve chosen us to coach you and share with you our passion for surfing, here on the north coast of Oregon and the north shore of Kauai. My coaches and I look forward to our future connections in fun filled surfing adventures in 2014. Let’s dream big with our surfing desires and goals, manifest them with our intention and attention then celebrate when the Universe delightfully delivers them to us!

HOT OFF THE PRESS
NW Women’s Surf Camps was highlighted in The Wall Street Journal Adventure and Travel section August 17, 2013, “The Undiscovered Shore”
After spending a fun filled day with NW writer Lucy Burmingham sharing with her NW surf culture and introducing her to local surf mentor, Cleanline Surf Company’s owner and waterman, Josh Gizdavich, NWWSC Director Lexie Hallahan had the joy of teaching Lucy her first surf lesson and sharing with her the thrill of surfing. After learning the 12 foundational skills and “the recipe for a perfect wave” on the beach, Lucy successfully was riding waves in to the beach for her water session with Hallahan. The phone was buzzing in the office for several days from clients across the nation who had read the WSJ article and who’ve also shared this unique experience with NWWSC.
